Full-Day mindfulness retreat for Parkland community with Jon Kabat-Zinn, Sharon Salzberg, the Holistic Life Foundation and Shelly Tygielski

About this Event

This opportunity is FREE of charge and open to people of all ages and levels of experience in the Parkland community-at-large and beyond. YOU MUST REGISTER in order to be able to attend! REGISTER AT: ParklandMeditationRetreat.eventbrite.com

Who should attend? Anyone that was affected (at any degree) by the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14th, 2018 and wants to learn how to use trauma-informed mindfulness to cope with anxiety and stress, to build resilience and continue/embark on the road to healing.

Join the “Father of Mindfulness” Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, World- Renowned Meditation Teacher Sharon Salzberg, the Holistic Life Foundationfounders (Ali Smith, Atman Smith and Andy Gonzalez) who work in schools across the country and local community organizer and meditation teacher Shelly Tygielski, for this incredible opportunity to learn from leaders in this space.

How long is the event? The event takes place from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be plenty of breaks in between and also an opportunity to break for lunch.

Is lunch provided? Not for free. The venue may be offering boxed lunches for $15 (more details to follow upon registration). You may also bring your own bagged lunch.

Do I need experience with meditation? Whether this will be your first time ever meditating or you are a seasoned meditator, this retreat is perfect for you. There is no experience required.

What will I learn? The teachers will focus on providing attendees with practical tools that you can leave with and begin to use in your daily life when you face anxiety, stress, tension or fear. They will discuss buidling building resilience, finding deeper meaning, cultivating compassion for others and self-love and how you can learn to better regulate your emotions.

Can children attend? Children that are mature enough and at an age where YOU will feel comfortable to allow them to participate in the Holistic Life Foundation programming for students (which will take place in the same facility, but in another space) are welcome. High School students are welcome to participate in either the adult programming or the HLF programming – whereever they feel more comfortable.

Do I have to attend the entire retreat? Yes. Please don’t sign up if you cannot attend from beginning to end. There are limited seats available and we ask that you please be mindful of the fact that if you sign up and can’t attend the whole event or at all, you are taking a seat away from someone else in the community who may really need access to these tools.

What else should I bring? A notebook, pen, and a sweater or sweatshirt. If you prefer to sit on the floor, you may bring a meditation cushion or mat.

What should I wear? Anything comfortable and loose.

Will we be doing yoga? No. This is a meditation retreat. HLF will be doing some movement excercises with the students but the main hall will not be practicing yoga.

What if I have any other questions? Please feel free to send an email to shellytygielski@gmail.com if you have any other questions.
